During the 2023 NCCN Annual Conference, Keith Argenbright, MD, and Evelyn González highlighted the benefits of mobile cancer screening programs, stressing their role in early detection, particularly for breast cancer. Moncrief Cancer Institute’s mobile screening unit has conducted over 125 screening events annually, providing essential tests like 3D mammography. Dr Argenbright emphasized community outreach and trust-building, while Dr González emphasized the need for organizational integration and community involvement.
Despite their advantages, challenges persist for both patients and providers, including underinsurance and high no-show rates. Future plans aim to expand services and bring mobile clinics to workplaces, enhancing accessibility. Mobile cancer screening holds promise in reducing disparities, but addressing challenges and engaging communities remain essential for success.
